07/06/2012 – Structure Fire – “A” Shift Incident # 12-03651 – A large garage was destroyed Friday 6-July at 62 Natures Trail north of Cottageville. The fire was reported at 12:40. Engine 9, Tender 9 and Medic 9 were clearing from another response two miles from the incident and arrived within minutes. They found the approximately 40x40 garage fully involved. The roof had already collapsed. A nearby 12x12 wooden building was also burning as well as a small pickup truck parked near the smaller building. Firefighters deployed two 1-3/4 handlines from Engine 9 to combat the fire. The building contained a great deal of equipment and flammable fluids used to work on cars. The adjacent storage building was packed full of materials including books, boxes and other household items. The fire was quickly brought under control, but took over an hour to overhaul. Water supply was conducted with Tenders. The apparent cause of the fire was electrical in nature and started in the garage, then spread to the storage building. A woman on the scene suffered from heat exhaustion. She was treated and transported by Firefighter-Paramedics to Colleton Medical Center. Units were on the scene for two hours. |
