27/July/2012 – Fatal MVC – “A” Shift

Incident # 12-01422 - A 45 year old Summerville man lost his life in a single vehicle MVC on Cayce Road, just north of Willow Swamp Road in western Colleton County (near the Ashton Community), Friday afternoon 27-July at 14:20. The north bound Suzuki GSX1300R motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it dropped off of the roadway in a curve. The driver lost control and came off of the motorcycle, landing in the ditch. The motorcycle traveled further down the ditch and struck a power pole causing heavy damage to the bike. A passing motorist discovered the accident and notified 9-1-1. Firefighter-Paramedics arrived a short time later, but the man had no signs of life. The Colleton County Coroner’s Office was notified, responded to the scene and transported the man to MUSC in Charleston for an autopsy. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Engine 18, Medic 18, Tender 23, Battalion 1, Car 12 and Car 107 responded. Firefighter-Paramedic Janet Laney served as Incident Commander.
