25/August/2012 – Structure Fire – “C” Shift

Incident # 12-04676 - Fire-Rescue responded to a well involved house fire at 4908 Cottageville Highway Saturday afternoon at 18:47. A passing motorist called 9-1-1 to report smoke coming from the home at that location. Firefighters arrived eight minutes later to find heavy smoke conditions with fire coming from the  windows at the B/C corner of the residence. Firefighters forced entry through the front door entering with a single 1-3/4 handline. Most of the heavy fire was in a rear bedroom, which had just burned through the bedroom door as crews entered the building. Firefighters encountered flames in the hallway, but quickly knocked down the fire containing it to the bedroom. The room suffered heavy damage, but the remainder of the home and the belongings were saved. The rest of the home suffered light smoke damage. The residents were not at home when the fire occurred. The initial investigation indicated the fire was electrical in origin. The occupants had the door to the room closed, which kept most of the fire inside the room, slowing it’s spread.

The fire did enter the attic area above the room of origin, but crews extinguished the fire before it spread throughout the attic. A water shuttle operation was used for water supply. Sheriff’s Deputies rerouted traffic on Cottageville Highway for two hours while fire crews were on the scene.

Engine 19, Engine 24, Tender 1, Tender 9, Tender 19, Tender 26, Tender 27, Medic 9, Medic 19, Battalion 1, Car 12 and Car 118 responded. Battalion Chief Scott Feather served as Incident Commander.
