28/August/2012 – Shooting Incident – “C” Shift

Incident # 12-04725 – A 21 year old man is in critical condition following a shooting incident at 205 Bailey Street in the City of Walterboro. Public Safety Officers cleared the scene to allow Firefighter-Paramedics to treat the man. He was found lying in the driveway with a single gunshot wound to the back. Crews quickly treated the man at the scene, then rapidly transported him directly to the helipad at Colleton Medical Center to meet with Lifenet 4. He was transferred without incident to the helicopter and flown to the Trauma Center at Memorial Health in Savannah Georgia. Poor weather conditions due to Hurricane Isaac prevented the helicopter from going to MUSC in Charleston. The patient’s condition deteriorated enroute, requiring emergency surgery shortly after arrival. The Walterboro Public Safety Department is investigating the case.

Engine 19, Medic 19, Car 12 and Car 110 responded. Captain Richard Sheffield served as Incident Commander.
