27-Sept-2012 – Auto Pedestrian MVC – “C” Shift Incident # 12-05314 – At 20:31, Thursday evening 27-September, a 52 year old Walterboro man who was riding a bicycle, was struck by a southbound Nissan Altima on Green Pond Highway (SC Hwy 303) just north of Cooks Hill Road. The man, who was wearing a reflective safety vest, helmet and had flashing LED lights on the front and rear of his bike, was thrown into the ditch. He suffered multiple suspected traumatic injuries, including a head injury. Witnesses stated the man was unconscious following the collision, but was alert when Fire-Rescue units arrived. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the man at the scene and requested a medical helicopter. He was immobilized prior to transport, received multiple IVs, then was taken by Medic 1 to meet with LifeNet 4 at the Colleton Medical Center helipad. The patient was transferred to the flight crew without incident and flown to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. Neither of the two occupants in the car were injured. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. |
