14/October/2012 – Fatal MVC with ejection – “A” Shift Incident # 12-05619 – One woman is dead and two other adults were injured after a SUV left the roadway and overturned, ejecting one occupant. The accident occurred Sunday morning 14-October at 00:36 near the 68 mile marker on Interstate 95. The southbound Jeep Cherokee lost control, left the roadway at a high rate of speed, struck several trees and overturned. The SUV suffered heavy damage. One adult female was thrown from the vehicle, landing approximately 20 feet into the wooded median. The remaining two occupants were able to crawl out of the Jeep, but could not locate the third woman in the darkness. Law Enforcement officers found her after searching the area with flashlights. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the patients at the scene and transported them to Colleton Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Other crew members searched the area with lights and thermal imaging cameras, but no other occupants were found. A communications barrier existed with the injured not speaking or understanding English. The Coroner’s Office was notified and transported the deceased woman. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. |

Engine 5, Engine 26, Medic 19, Medic 26, Rescue 1, Battalion 1, Car 12 and Car 118 responded. Battalion Chief Scott Feather served as Incident Commander.
