09/November/2012 – Tree Rescue – “A” Shift

Incident # 12-06129 – A six year old girl was rescued from a tree Friday afternoon 09-November at the Black Street Early Childhood Development Center located at 256 Smith Street. At 14:19, Fire-Rescue was notified of a child stuck in a tree at the school on the east playground. The girl had climbed the small tree, but slid down in a fork, wedging her leg at the knee. Attempts by school officials and firefighters to free her leg were unsuccessful, even with the use of lubricants. Firefighters resorted to the use of Holmatro Hydraulic Spreaders, positioned just about her trapped leg to force the tree apart. The effort released the pressure on her leg, so she could be removed. The child was evaluated by Firefighter-Paramedics and released to her mother. She did not sustain any injuries. There was very little damage to the tree.

Engine 1, Medic 1, Rescue 1, Battalion 1 and Car 105 responded.
