21/November/2012 – Multi-Vehicle MVC – “A” Shift

Incident # 12-006358 - Four people were injured, with two being transported to Colleton Medical Center following a five car accident on I-95 near the 64 mile marker southbound. The accident occurred at 12:13, Wednesday 21-November, the day before Thanksgiving. Heavy traffic resulted in intermittent slow moving vehicles. At one point near the 64 mile marker several vehicles slowed resulting in a car towing a camper running into the rear of a Chevrolet Tahoe. This caused a chain reaction accident, where a small car drove under the camper and two other cars rear ended each other. Fire-Rescue responded with several units, including two ambulances. Four people were evaluated for injuries. Two required transportation to the hospital for additional treatment of their injuries. The southbound side of the Interstate was down to one lane for over an hour until the vehicles could be removed from the highway. It was reported that southbound traffic backed up 17 miles to the Bowman Exit in Dorchester County.

Colleton County Animal Control Officers responded to the scene to transport two small canines to the Animal Shelter until the owners were released from the hospital. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Engine 17, Engine 26, Medic 1, Medic 26, Rescue 1, Battalion 1, Car 118, Car 119 and Car 12 responded. Battalion Chief Joey Campbell served as Incident Commander.
