04/December/2012 – Structure Fire – “B” Shift

Incident # 12-06592 – Firefighters saved approximately 60% of an Oregon Road home Tuesday evening 04-December. Units were dispatched to 586 Oregon Road at 19:44 after several neighbors reported seeing fire coming from the roof of the building. Engine 6 arrived to find 35% of the single story brick veneer dwelling well involved with flames coming through the roof. The home had bars on all the windows and doors. Firefighters deployed one 2-1/2 and two 1-3/4 handlines to combat the fire. A second alarm was issued shortly after arrival. Other crewmembers used halagan tools to forcibly remove the bars from the windows before anyone was allowed to make entry into the building. Once an egress was made, two teams of firefighters entered through the front door and were able to quickly bring the fire under control. The fire was contained to the south end of the building, saving all of the items in 2/3s of the house, including many 1920s family photographs.  The fire had extended under the floor, reaching a bedroom, requiring firefighters to use a chain saw to cut a hole in the floor to extinguish the fire under the home. 

Water supply was conducted with Tenders. The fire appears to have started in the garage near several appliances, which is consistent with witness statements, however the homeowner noted the appliances had not been used for some time. Fire-Rescue units were on the scene for five hours.
