26/December/2012 – MVC with Entrapment – “C” Shift

Incident # 12-07018 – A high speed single car MVC on I-95 at the 49 mile marker north bound, sent two people to the hospital. The accident occurred Wednesday morning 26-December at 10:13 in a heavy down pour as severe thunderstorms passed through the area. The north bound Honda left the roadway, spun around backwards and impacted two trees. Both occupants received non-life threatening traumatic injuries and the driver was trapped inside the car. Firefighter-Paramedics used Holmatro Rescue Tools to cut down a small tree and remove the driver’s side door. The driver was extricated with full spinal precautions, then transported to Colleton Medical Center. North bound traffic in the area of the accident was down to one lane for approximately an hour, causing it to back up several miles.  South bound traffic was already at a near standstill. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Engine 1, Rescue 1, Medic 1, Battalion 1 and Car 111 responded. Battalion Chief Dan Barb served as Incident Commander.
