28/December/2012 – Structure Fire – “B” Shift

Incident # 12-097068 – At 15:31, Friday 28-December, 9-1-1 received reports of smoke coming from the building at 9026 Sidneys Road. The vacant 8000 square foot commercial building was previously used as a tire and automotive repair shop.  Engine 19 arrived to find the single story block building with light smoke visible from the roof and eaves. One hand line was deployed to the building as Tender 19 set up water supply. Firefighters entered the structure through an open garage door on the “B” side of the building and found several mattresses and a pile of debris burning in the center of the old parts  room near the shelves. The fire had not spread to the structure, however the entire building, which was divided into three sections, was charged with smoke. Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire and removed the burning mattresses to the exterior, where other crew members soaked them down with a booster line. PPV fans were used to clear smoke from the building. There was no power connected to the facility. The Sheriff’s Office was on scene and is investigating the suspected arson fire.

Engine 5, Engine 19, Tender 1, Tender, 5, Tender 9, Tender 19, Medic 9, Medic 19, Battalion 1 and Car 109 responded. Battalion Chief Ben Heape served as Incident Commander.
