30/January/2013 – Structure Fire – “B” Shift

Incident # 13-00561- An unattended grass fire destroyed an unoccupied home on Hoover Lane near Lowcountry Highway at 15:06 Wednesday afternoon 30-Janaury. Firefighters were sent to the intersection after someone reported a house on fire near that location. Engine 7 arrived eight minutes later to find the wooden building completely burned down. Firefighters had some access problems due to the overgrown roadway, but deployed several handlines from Engine 7 to extinguish the grass fire and the remains of the building. Engine 18 deployed several handlines to protect two other buildings from the rapidly moving grass fire. Water supply was conducted with Tenders and firefighters were on the scene for two hours. No one could provide any information regarding the fire. Fire-Rescue Investigators and the Sheriff’s Office continue to investigate the incident.

Engine 7, Engine 18, Tender 7, Tender 17, Tender 18, Battalion 1, Medic 18, Car 119 responded. Firefighter-EMT Jeff Laney served as Incident Commander.
