06/February/2013 – Structure Fire – “C” Shift

Incident # 13-00699 – A large wooden garage was destroyed in what is believed to have started as an electrical fire at 358 Bridge Road north of Cottageville. The incident was reported Wednesday afternoon at 16:29. Engine 9 arrived minutes later to find the one story wood building fully involved. Thick black smoke from the fire could be seen eight miles from the scene. Firefighters were hampered from reaching the building due to downed power lines and some units were directed to the scene from an alternate route. Firefighters deployed multiple handlines to extinguish the fire and protect nearby exposures. The building and its contents were completely destroyed. Bystanders advised the building was once used as a store. Units were on the scene for over three hours. Water supply was handled with Tenders.

Engine 5, Engine 9, Engine 11, Tender 5, Tender 9, Tender 19, Medic 9 and Battalion 1 responded. Battalion Chief Dan Barb served as Incident Commander.
