16/February/2013 – MVC with Air Evacuation – “A” Shift

Incident # 13-00859 – Two people were injured in a single vehicle accident on I-95 NB at the 50 mile marker Saturday morning 16-February at 08:27. Initial reports indicated the vehicle was overturned, smoking and had one person trapped inside. It appeared the northbound Ford F-250 was pulling a small box trailer when it lost control and entered the median. The truck overturned, coming to rest on its roof at a culvert against the cable barrier. Witness reports indicated the female passenger may have been partially ejected. A group of Paramedics from a Rescue Squad in Maryland stopped to render aid. Fire-Rescue units arrived to find the overturned vehicle and all occupants were already safely out of the truck. There was no fire or smoke found. The female patient received multiple traumatic injuries. She was treated at the scene which included IVs and medications, while LifeNet 4 based at Colleton Medical Center was placed on standby. Both patients were placed in Medic 1 with additional Firefighter-Paramedics assisting.

Medic 1 responded emergent directly to the helipad at Colleton Medical Center. The female patient was transferred to the Flight Crew without incident and flown to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. The male driver was then transported over to the CMC ED where he received further treatment.

Engine 1, Medic 1, Battalion 1, Car 12 and Car 118 responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident Commander.
