06/March/2013 – Structure Fire – “C” Shift

Incident # 13-01162 – A singlewide mobile home was heavily damaged in an early morning fire at 41 Huberts Lane in the Green Pond Community, Wednesday morning 6-March. 9-1-1 Operators received the report of the fire at 01:28 reporting smoke and flames coming from the home. Engine 6 and Medic 6 arrived four minutes later to find the home fully involved. Firefighters deployed several handlines to combat the fire. Efforts were hampered by a power line that fell, blocking access to the structure from the single driveway. Windy conditions endangered a second nearby mobile home. Firefighters kept the flames from reaching the second building. The occupant advised she heard a popping sound coming from a bedroom. When she went to investigate, she found the room full of smoke, but it quickly ignited engulfing the room. The fire rapidly spread through the entire residence. The home and a car parked next to it were destroyed. The home was completely gutted. The two occupants safely escaped uninjured.

The power company who was busy with downed lines throughout the county took four hours to respond to the scene. Fire units cleared up after three hours and left one unit to guard the downed power line until SCE&G arrived. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Engine 6, Engine 21, Tender 1, Tender 2, Tender 6, Tender 12, Tender 22, Tender 25, Tender 27, Medic 6, Battalion 1, Car 12 and Car 107 responded. Assistant Chief Marty Stallings served as Incident Commander.
