16/March/2013 – MVC with entrapment & Air Evac – “A” Shift

Incident # 13-01375 – A high speed single car MVC sent one woman to the Trauma Center Saturday morning 16-March at 00:46. The northbound 1995 Nissan left the roadway in a curve and struck several trees. The small car received heavy damage trapping the adult female passenger in the wreckage. The male driver, who was at the scene when Fire-Rescue units arrived, fled the scene. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the woman during the extrication. Crews used Holmatro Rescue Tools to first remove the roof, then cut portions of the passenger seat to free her. She was transported from the scene to the helipad at Colleton Medical Center, transferred to the crew of Lifenet 3, then flown to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Firefighters, Troopers and Sheriff’s Office Deputies searched the area for the driver, who was injured, but he was not located.

Engine 19, Medic 19, Rescue 1, Battalion 1, Car 12 and Car 111 responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident Commander.
