16/March/2013 – ATV Accident with Air Evac – “B” Shift Incident 13-01393 – A two year old girl was injured after she was reportedly run over by an ATV in the Green Pond area Saturday afternoon. Details of the incident are sketchy. 9-1-1 operators received a call from the girl’s father who reported the incident and was transporting the unconscious child by POV traveling north on Green Pond Highway enroute to the hospital. He requested to have an ambulance meet him on Green Pond Highway. Medic 1 and Engine 1 were dispatched to intercept the car. Lt. Banks in a Paramedic First Response Unit met the vehicle in the 3400 block of Green Pond Highway near the Walterboro Veneer Plant. The child was still unconscious, but was breathing on her own. Medic 1 and Engine 1 arrived a short time later. The patient was transferred to the ambulance, where Firefighter-Paramedics began treatment. They requested a medical helicopter, then rapidly transported the child to the helipad at Colleton Medical Center to meet with LifeNet 4, who was waiting when they arrived. |

The patient who remained unconscious, was transferred to the flight crew without incident and flown to the Pediatric Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. She was suspected to have suffered a head injury and was admitted to the MUSC. Engine 1, Medic 1, Car 12 and Car 111 responded. Lt. Michael Banks served as Incident Commander.
