20/March/2013 – Structure Fires – “C” Shift

Incident # 13-01478 – At 18:44 on Wednesday the 20th of March, a structure fire was reported in the area of Sutton Acres Lane north of Cottageville. Engine 11 located the fire at 1021 Wesley Chapel Ave, which was actually involving two buildings and approximately ½ acre of brush. Both structures had been unoccupied for some time and undergrowth around the buildings presented some access problems. Engine 11 deployed a three inch line down the driveway, then gated the line to two 1-3/4 handlines. One building had been a doublewide mobile home and the other a block building. The mobile home was already on the ground, but the block building still had a portion of its roof standing. Crews knocked down the fire in the block building and then worked to extinguish the remains of the doublewide mobile home. Neither building had power connected and evidence at the scene indicated a vehicle had recently driven near the structures. A Forestry tractor cut a fire line around the fire scene to prevent any spread from the associated brush fire. The fire’s origin is suspicious in nature. The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the case.

Anyone with information related to the fire is encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 843-549-2211, Fire-Rescue Headquarters at 843-539-1960 or the SLED Arson Hotline at 800-922-7766.

Engine 09, Engine 11, Tender 5, Tender 9, Tender 19, Tender 903, Medic 9, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Battalion Chief Dan Barb served as Incident Commander.
