23/April/2013 – MVC with entrapment & Air Evac – “C” Shift Incident # 13-02140 – A single car, high speed MVC has left a 42 year old man with life threatening injuries. The accident occurred sometime before 06:00 on Carter’s Ford Road just south of Paschal Road near the Town of Lodge, Tuesday 23-April. A hunter discovered the vehicle on the dark rural road and reported the accident at 06:08. Firefighter-Paramedics found the man entrapped in the 2000 Ford Explorer. He was talking, but it was reported that he was unconscious following the accident. The northbound vehicle appeared to have left the roadway, overcorrected and struck several trees on the southbound side of the road. The small SUV had over 2-1/2 feet of intrusion into the passenger side. A crewmember entered the vehicle through the rear window to begin treating the patient, while others used Holmatro rescue tools to remove the driver’s door. A medical helicopter was requested. The man was extricated with full spinal precautions and transported to a nearby field. LifeNet 4 landed in a field near the accident site and the patient was transferred to the Flight Crew without incident. |

He was flown to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Engine 23, Medic 18, Rescue 18, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Fire Commissioner Doug Mixson Sr. served as Incident Commander.
