28/April/2013 – Structure Fire – “C” Shift

Incident # 13-02251 – A fire in home at 1140 Community Ave north of the Town of Smoaks, heavily damaged the residence. Fire-Rescue was notified of the incident by a passerby who noticed flames coming from the home. Firefighters responded at 08:42 and arrived to find the singlewide mobile home approximately 50% involved. The roof and floor in the center of the residence had already burned away. No one was at home when the fire occurred in this rural area. Crews used several handlines to combat the fire. Flames under the floor in the insulation presented some problems and took a great deal of time to extinguish. The structure suffered substantial damage and most personal belongings were destroyed. The origin of the fire was suspicious resulting in County fire investigators calling in the SLED Arson unit to assist in determining the cause. Firefighters were on the scene for nearly four hours. Investigators worked the site for seven hours after firefighters cleared up, finishing their job at 19:30.

Engine 7, Engine 18, Tender 7, Tender 18, Tender 26, Medic 18, Medic 26, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Firefighter-Paramedic Steve Sanders served as Incident Commander.
