19/May/2013 – Structure Fire – “C” Shift Incident # 13-02664 – An alert citizen contributed to saving a Green Park home Sunday morning 19-May. At 8:53 a passing motorist noticed smoke coming from a home at 408 Gadsden Loop and notified 9-1-1. Fire-Rescue units arrived minutes later to find light smoke coming from the eaves of the single story residential dwelling. Firefighters deployed one 1-3/4 handline and forced entry through the front door. There was only light smoke inside the home with very little heat. Firefighters searched the home, determined there were no occupants and located the fire in an exterior utility room on the back of the residence. They quickly extinguished the fire which was contained to one wall of the utility room. The fire was obviously intentionally set. Crews secured the scene, notified the Sheriff’s Office and the SLED Arson Unit. Much of the evidence was undamaged. The fire did not spread beyond the utility room. Firefighters used a positive pressure fan to force smoke from inside the building. The remainder of the home suffered only minor smoke damage. |
