23/June/2013 – High Speed MVC with Air Evac – “A” Shift

Incident # 13-03390 – A 30 year old Smoaks man received life threatening injuries in a high speed, single car MVC that occurred in the 200 block of Sizemore Road in the Johnsville Community. The accident was reported at 05:56, Sunday morning 23-June. The eastbound car lost control in a curve, spun around backwards before entering the woods on the westbound side of the road and struck several trees. The car received massive damage, ejecting the driver. The rear and front seats were pushed into the steering wheel from the impact. Medic 18 found the patient ambulatory near the car. He was immobilized and treated at the scene. A medical helicopter was requested. The patient was transported to the baseball field on Lowcountry Hwy. (US Hwy 21) near Phoenix Circle to meet with the LifeNet 4 medical helicopter. The patient was transferred to the Flight Crew without incident, then flown to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the accident.

Engine 7, Medic 18, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Captain John Graham served as Incident Commander.
