11/July/2013 – Traumatic Injury with Air Evacuation – “A” Shift

Incident # 13-03769 – An adult male received a critical head injury following a domestic dispute Thursday morning 11-July at 01:36. The incident occurred at 10422 Lowcountry Highway, south of Sniders Crossroads. Witnesses stated the man was struck in the head with a hammer. Firefighter-Paramedics found the man semi-conscious inside the residence and immediately requested a medical helicopter. He was immobilized, then moved to Medic 18 where the crew maintained his airway, established multiple IV lines and controlled his bleeding. LifeNet 4 based in Walterboro, arrived quickly, landing in the front yard of the home. The crews RSIed the man so they could intubate the patient to secure his airway. He was flown from the scene to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. The Colleton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.

Engine 29, Medic 18, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Firefighter-Paramedic (Acting Battalion Chief) Brian Rowe served as Incident Commander.
