8, 10, 11 & 17/July/2013 – Firefighter Evaluations

The Colleton County Fire-Rescue Training Division assisted the Town of Edisto Beach with Firefighter evaluations in the first weeks of July. The Town Administrator requested assistance to evaluate the Town’s full-time and part-time firefighters before the arrival of a new Fire Chief in September. Battalion Chiefs Scott Feather and Joey Campbell, as well as Fire-Rescue Deputy Chief David Greene, made four trips to the Island to make contact with each crew member. They were tested on a variety of firefighting as well as emergency medical tasks, utilizing national standards as a baseline. Some of the skills included medical assessments and patient care, use of hand tools, power tools and hydraulic rescue tools; proper use of ground ladders, operations of pumpers and aerial trucks and use of ropes/knots. All personnel completed the drills without much difficulty. The Town was very accommodating which made the process run faster than anticipated. Town Manager Iris Hill, along with Acting Fire Chief Brian Rowe coordinated the endeavor, which was approved by County Administrator Kevin Griffin.
