17/September/2013 – MVC w/ejection & Air Evac. - "A" Shift

Incident # 13-05094 – A high speed two vehicle MVC sent three people to the hospital Tuesday afternoon 17-September. The accident on Johnsville Road just north of Yorkshire Lane was reported at 16:53. Apparently a northbound car traveling at a high rate of speed, crossed the center line after a curve. A southbound pickup truck attempted to avoid the collision by driving into the ditch, but the vehicles side swiped one another. The rear axle of the pickup truck was knocked off of the vehicle and the truck overturned ejecting the 35 year old male driver. An 8 year old boy was also in the truck, but was able to crawl out on his own. A 20 year old female in the passenger car was also injured. Firefighter-Paramedics arrived a short time later and requested a medical helicopter for the pickup truck’s driver and a second ambulance to assist with the two other patients. All were treated at the scene and the pickup driver was transported to a nearby field to meet with the LifeNet 4 helicopter. He suffered multiple traumatic injuries and was flown to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. The female and the child were transported by Medic 26 to Colleton Medical Center. Traffic on Johnsville Road was closed for approximately an hour. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Engine 5, Engine 7, Medic 18, Medic 26, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Firefighter-EMT Jeff Laney served as Incident Commander. Captain John Graham served as LZ Coordinator.
