25/October/2013 – MVC with Entrapment – “B” Shift A 53 year old man received multiple traumatic injuries following a single vehicle MVC in the 1600 block of Wolfe Creek Road Friday morning 25-October. A passing motorist located the accident on the remote rural road. The man attempted to free the driver before calling 9-1-1 at 01:47. Apparently the northbound Mazda pickup truck left the roadway, over corrected and enter the ditch on the southbound side of the road. The vehicle began to overturn as the driver was partially ejected. The small truck came to rest on the driver’s side on top of the driver, pinning him under the wreckage. Firefighters stabilized the vehicle using a wench on the top side of the truck. A Holmatro Hydraulic Spreader and chains were used in conjunction with a tree, Ricky Jacks and cribbing to stabilize the bottom. Crews removed the windshield to gain access to the driver and begin medical treatment. Using the Spreaders and the winch the small pickup truck was carefully rolled off of the man. Holmatro Cutters were used to cut away pieces of the truck to relieve pressure on the man. He was eventually extricated with full C-spine precautions and transported to Colleton Medical Center. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. |
