26/October/2013 – Medical Emergency with Air Evac – “A” Shift

Incident # 13-05843 – An adult female suffered a critical life threatening emergency at a residence on Mable Lane Saturday evening, 26-October at 19:58. Firefighter-Paramedics on Medic 19 began treating the woman at the home and requested an additional Medic unit to respond. A medical helicopter was also called to transport the patient to a specialty center in Charleston. The patient was placed in Medic 19, then transported to a field off of Augusta Hwy at Maggie’s Farm Lane where Engine 19 set up a Landing Zone. The patient’s condition slightly improved during the transport, but quickly deteriorated while waiting on the helicopter to arrive. Crewmembers had to perform advanced airway care and administer a variety of medications. LifeNet 7 from Charleston landed in the field, then assisted with the patient care prior to flying the patient to Roper Hospital.

Engine 19, Medic 19, Medic 26 and Car 12 responded. Firefighter-EMT Brian Bishop served as Incident Commander at the LZ.
