14/November/2013 – High Speed MVC – “B” Shift

Incident # 13-06221 – Three people were injured in a two vehicle high speed MVC at the intersection of Augusta Highway and Rehoboth Road Thursday evening 14-November. The accident was reported at 19:59 after a Mitsubishi Lancer drove through a stop sign and was struck by an east bound Ford Pickup Truck. The pickup left the roadway, struck several large trees and caught fire. Both vehicles received heavy damage. The two occupants of the Pickup Truck were able to exit the vehicle before the truck was engulfed in flames. Firefighters arrived a short time later to find the Lancer in the woods and the pickup truck also in the woods, well involved. While crews extinguished the fire, Firefighter-Paramedics began treating the injured patients. A second ambulance was also requested. Augusta Highway was completely blocked due to the accident.

The driver of the Lancer received minor injuries. She denied the need for transportation to a hospital. One adult male in the pickup truck was transported to Colleton Medical Center, while the passenger was rapidly transported by Medic 19 directly to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. Unit remained on the scene for over an hour. The accident is being investigated by the SC Highway Patrol.

Engine 9, Engine 36, Tender 32, Medic 9, Medic 19, Rescue 1, Battalion 1, Car 12 and Car 117 responded. Lt. Jimmy Jacques served as Incident Commander.
