10/December/2013 – Auto Pedestrian MVC – “C” Shift Incident # 13-06695 – A six year old boy received
multiple traumatic injuries after he was run over by a pickup truck in
the 3500 block of Bells Highway, Tuesday morning 10-December at 07:07.
Witnesses advised the child ran into the path of the west bound S-10
Pickup. After being struck, the child went completely under the vehicle,
coming out from the rear of the truck. He then rolled into a nearby
ditch. Deputy Chief Greene in Car 105 drove up on the accident as it was
being dispatched. His vehicle is equipped as a Paramedic First Response
Unit. He began treating the boy while Station # 26 units were responded.
Greene requested a medical helicopter, but none could fly due to poor
weather conditions. Medic 26 arrived minutes later and quickly
immobilized the child. With a scene time of only six minutes,
Firefighter-Paramedics quickly prepared the patient for a transport
directly to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. The driver of the
pickup truck was checked by Fire Personnel several times. He was very
upset, but did not require medical treatment. Traffic on busy Bells Hwy.
was blocked for about 30 minutes. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating
the accident. Engine 26, Medic 26, Car 105, Battalion 1, Car 12
and Car 118 responded. Battalion Chief Scott feather served as Incident
Commander. |
