18/December/2013 – MVC with Entrapment – “C” Shift 

Incident # 13-06851 - Three people were injured, one critically in a two vehicle collision on Sniders Highway near Acorn Road Wednesday morning 18-December. At 11:52 a Chrysler Concorde pulled into the path of an eastbound tractor trailer. The empty log truck struck the car in the passenger side doors causing heavy damage and trapping two of the occupants. Units from Fire-Rescue and Walterboro Public Safety responded. The 72 year old male driver was out of the car when responders arrived. He was able to walk to a nearby ambulance. One additional ambulance was requested. Firefighter-Paramedics treated both women during the extrication. Fire-Rescue crews used Holmatro hydraulic rescue tools to remove the passenger side doors to extricate the women. A medical helicopter was placed on stand-by, however due to the patient’s condition, she was rapidly transported by ambulance to Colleton Medical Center to be stabilized. The 72 year old woman was later flown from Colleton Medical Center’s ED by helicopter to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. The other two patients were later transferred by ambulance to MUSC. Walterboro Public Safety is investigating the crash.  

 

Colleton County Rescue 1, Medic 1, Medic 13, Battalion 1, Car 105, Car 110, Car 111, Walterboro Engine 1 and Engine 2 responded. Colleton Battalion Chief Dan Barb served as Incident Commander.
