13/January/2014 – Hose Testing

Personnel from Waterway of North Carolina came to Colleton County to test all of our hose. This is the first time our department has contracted the annual hose testing. The company brings their own pressure testing equipment, marks all of the hose and numbers it. They are cross referencing our old numbers. Their staff of ten personnel unload each Engine and reload the hose using the lays we specify. They tested approximately 60,000 feet the first week and will be returning next week to complete the job. Captain Richard Sheffield, Lt. Mikey Banks and Second Lt. Janet Laney have been coordinating the effort and making sure the Engines are there on time and stations are back filled with a reserve unit. They have a great process in place which makes it simple for the agency and we get the entire compliment of hose tested within a couple of weeks, rather than it taking various dates spread throughout the year.
