16/February/2014 – MVC with Ejection & Air Evac – “C” Shift

Incident # 14-01069 – An adult male was seriously injured after he was ejected from a pickup truck on I-95 Sunday afternoon at 12:50. The northbound Ford Ranger suffered a tire blowout and lost control. According to a witness, the small truck flipped over several times ejecting one occupant and landing on top of the man. Northbound traffic at the accident site was completely blocked due to the overturned truck and debris. Several bystanders manually rolled the truck off of the man and a couple of nurses stopped to render aid. Two other men in the truck suffered only minor injuries and denied transportation to the hospital. Firefighter-Paramedics found the man lying face down on the highway with multiple traumatic injuries. A medical helicopter was requested while crews treated the man for his injuries. LifeNet 4 landed on the interstate north of the accident. The man was transferred to the flight crew, then flown to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. Northbound traffic was blocked for approximately 40 minutes. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.

Engine 13, Medic 13, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Battalion Chief Ben Heape served as Incident Commander.
