19/February/2014 – Structure Fire – “C” Shift

Incident # 14-01142 – A Hendersonville home was destroyed in an afternoon fire that began when someone was burning yard debris. At 14:45 Wednesday 19-Feb, a grass fire was dispatched at 8230 Hendersonville Highway. Engine 8 arrived minutes later to find heavy smoke in the area which was crossing the highway obstructing visibility. As the crew investigated the scene, found a single story residential dwelling located well off of the roadway. The attached garage was fully involved and two vehicles were also fully involved. Fire had already spread to the main residence and flames were coming from the eaves of the home. A structural response was requested, as firefighters deployed multiple hand lines. Captain Sheffield arrived and established Command, requesting a second alarm. A water shuttle operation was set up for water supply. The home suffered extensive damage . The fire originated from a yard debris fire that was spread by high winds. The Charleston Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the family.

Engine 1, Engine 6, Engine 8, Engine 13, Engine 27, Tender 1, Tender 6, Tender 8, Tender 13, Tender 27, Medic 6, Medic 13, Brush 2, Car, 12, Car 107, Car 110, Car, 111 and Car 119 responded. Captain Richard Sheffield served as Incident Commander.
