14/March/2014 – Fatal Shooting Incident – “B” Shift Incident # 14-01638 – At 18:07, Friday 14-March, Fire-Rescue and Sheriff’s Deputies were sent to the 200 block of Pansy Street for a reported person shot. While units were responding, the location was changed to 202 Godwin Street, an auto repair shop which is about ½ block away. Responding units were also advised that one person who was injured had left the scene in a SUV and headed in the direction of the hospital. A Walterboro Public Safety unit intercepted the vehicle and followed it a few blocks to the Hospital where the injured man went into the main entrance to the facility. Several Sheriff’s Deputies diverted to the hospital and the City PS also responded there. The hospital went on lockdown. The first arriving Firefighter-Paramedics went in with deputies. As law enforcement cleared the building, the crew checked on a male subject found lying in the doorway of the business. The man had no signs of life. The Coroner’s Office was notified. Deputies closed the 200 block of Godwin Street, which forms a dead end. They remained on the scene for several hours conducting their investigation. The male patient who went to the ED by SUV was in critical condition with several gunshot wounds. He was quickly stabilized at the ED and was flown 25 minutes later by the LifeNet 4 medical helicopter to the Trauma Center at MUSC. |
