23/March/2014 – Structure Fire – “A” Shift

Incident # 14-01821 – A residential dwelling located at 718 Durango Lane was heavily damage by a fire Sunday morning 23-March at 00:21. The occupants were alerted to the fire by smoke alarms. The fire started from electrical wiring in the ceiling of the doublewide mobile home above the kitchen. It burned through the attic space above the living area in the center of the structure. When firefighters arrived, the fire had already burned through the roof, involving about 40% of the roof. Crews deployed multiple handlines as they tried to stop the spread of the fire. It burned in both directions burning most of the roof off of the home before it was brought under control. Many personal items were saved, but the entire home suffered water damage and some areas suffered damage from the roof falling into the living area. Most of the fire was contained to the attic area and there was little fire damage in the living space, however the home received heavy damage. All occupants were able to safely exit the building after the smoke alarms went off. Interior crews recovered two pet turtles, alive and well from a bathroom. Firefighters were on the scene for about four hours. Water supply was handled with a Tender shuttle. The Red Cross is assisting the family.

Engine 9, Engine 32, Tender 1, Tender 9, Tender 13, Tender 19, Tender 26, Tender 27, Tender 32, Medic 9, Medic 19, Medic 26, Rescue 1, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Engineer-Paramedic Jimmy Guenther served as Incident Commander.
