17/May/2014 – Shooting Incident – “B” Shift Incident # 14-02988 – A 32 year old man received a life
threatening gunshot wound in a crowded bar at Leon’s Club, 8150 Round O Road
south of Cottageville. The incident was reported at 02:50, Saturday 17-May.
Sheriff’s Deputies secured the scene before Medic 9 arrived.
Firefighter-Paramedics found the man seated inside the building with a large
caliber gunshot wound to the lower back and an exit wound to the lower
abdomen. A medical helicopter was requested as crews began to rapidly treat
the man at the scene. His bleeding was controlled and multiple IVs and
oxygen were administered. He was transported to a field next to the Mt Sinai
Church to meet with the helicopter. The man’s condition deteriorated while
on scene. LifeNet 4 based at CMC in Walterboro landed in the field. The
patient was transferred to the Flight Crew without incident. He was then
flown to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. The Colleton County
Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident. Medic 9, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Battalion
Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident Commander. |
