01/July/2014 – MVC with ejection & Air Evac – “C” Shift

Incident # 14-03888 – A high speed single vehicle accident on Peirce Road near McDanieltown Road sent two people to the hospital Tuesday evening 1-July at 23:56. The Honda SUV roll-over several times ejecting the 28 year old driver. It received heavy damage, but landed upright. The driver was found unconscious in a ditch near the car. A 16 year old male who was seatbelted in the vehicle also receive multiple traumatic injuries. Shortly after arrival, Medic 9 called for a second ambulance and a medical helicopter. Both patients were treated and immobilized at the scene. Engine 9 set up a Landing Zone in a field at Cottageville Elementary School two miles south of the scene. The 28 year old patient was transported to meet with the helicopter at the school. He was transferred to the flight crew, then flown to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. The younger patient was transported by Medic 19 to Colleton Medical Center where he was later transferred to MUSC. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Engine 9, Medic 9, Medic 19 and Battalion 1 responded. Firefighter Steven Pelton served as Incident Commander.
