05/July/2014 – MVC with Ejection – “A” shift Incident # 14-03976 – A high speed single vehicle
accident in the 300 block of Cypress Pond Road sent three people to the
hospital Saturday afternoon 5-July. At 17:22, 9-1-1 began receiving reports
of a small white car that lost control in a curve and struck a power pole.
Initial calls reported one person was ejected and two people were still in
the car. Engine 1 arrived to find the 1995 Mitsubishi 3000GT with heavy
damage, resting upright on the west side of the road. A power pole was
broken in several pieces and laying on the ground. Electricity in the area
was reported to be out, however the was evidence of the line arching on the
car. The vehicle appeared to have lost control after a curve and
over-corrected. The car struck the ditch bank, then flipped over at least
five times. The three occupants received multiple, non-life threatening
traumatic injuries and were out of the car when Firefighter-Paramedics
arrived. Engine 1 requested one additional ambulance. All three patients
were treated at the scene, then transported to Colleton Medical Center.
Personnel from Coastal Electric Co-Op responded to the scene to replace the
pole and restore power. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Engine 1, Medic 1, Medic 9, Battalion1 and Car 12
responded. Battalion Chief Dan Barb served as Incident Commander. |
