19/July/2014 – Auto vs Pedestrian with Air Evac – “C”
shift Incident # 14-04257 – An adult male was in critical
condition after being struck by a car on Robertson Blvd south of Smith
Street Saturday evening 19-July. At 22:00, Fire-Rescue was notified of the
incident on a dark stretch of the connector. A motorist found the man lying
in the roadway severely injured. The car who struck him had left the scene
without rendering aid. Firefighter-Paramedics arrived minutes later and
began treating the man. He suffered multiple traumatic injuries. He was
immobilized and treated at the scene, then rapidly transported to the
helipad at Colleton Medical Center to meet with LifeNet 4. The flight crew
performed RSI prior to transport, then flew the patient to the Trauma Center
at MUSC in Charleston. He was taken to surgery shortly after arrival. The section of Robertson Blvd between Smith St and Rivers Street was closed while the Highway Patrol investigated the accident. About 30 minutes later, a Law Enforcement Officer working the traffic detour detained two subjects driving a vehicle he suspected was involved in the crash. Their car was eventually towed from the scene. The SC Highway Patrol continues to investigate. |

Highway Patrol, Colleton County Sheriff’s Office and Walterboro Police also
responded. |
