21/July/2014 – Drowning Incident – “B” Shift Incident # 14-04290 – A 28 year old man died in a
possible electrocution/drowning incident at Murray Mines, 26668 Augusta Hwy
Monday afternoon 21-July at 15:59. According to witnesses, the longtime
employee was found floating in the water near a small boat at the large sand
mining facility in northeastern Colleton County. The boat was near some
dredging equipment and bystanders felt the man was electrocuted before
falling into the water. Co-workers had turned off electrical power to the
area. They pulled him from the water and began CPR. Firefighter-Paramedics
were not able to get an ambulance near the location but used a Volunteer
Firefighter’s 4x4 pickup truck to reach the patient who was about a mile
from the entrance. Resuscitative efforts were continued in the rear of the
pickup truck during the trek back to the ambulance and then continued
throughout the 24 minute emergent trip to the hospital. Sadly the man did
not survive. The Colleton County Sheriff’s Office and Coroner are
investigating the incident.
Engine 9, Engine 36, Medic 9, Battalion 1, Car 12 and
Car 119 responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident
Commander. |
