01/September/2014 - MVC with entrapment – “B” Shift

Incident # 1405217 – Two people were injured after a small car collided with a full sized pickup truck in the intersection of Robertson Blvd and Cottageville Highway Monday 01-Sept at 12:49. The car was struck in the passenger side doors with approximately 8 inches of intrusion. The driver was removed from the vehicle with full spinal precautions, but rescuers had difficulty extricating the passenger. Firefighters used Holmatro rescue tools to remove the passenger side doors. The patient was then extricated with full spinal precautions. Both patients were transported by Medic 19 to Colleton Medical Center. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured. Traffic at the busy intersection was rerouted for approximately 45 minutes. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Engine 19, Medic 1, Medic 19, Rescue 1, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Firefighter II-EMT-I James Varnadoe served as Incident Commander.
