10/November/2014 – Structure Fire – “C” Shift

Incident # 14-06603 - Colleton Firefighters saved a doublewide mobile home Monday evening 10-Nov. At 21:32, 9-1-1 received a report of the fire at 244 Davis Circle off of Peniel Road. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke conditions with flames at the rear of the home. Crews made entry into the front door and found fire in the master bedroom. Firefighters initially encountered flames spreading across the ceiling. Using an 1-3/4 handline interior crews quickly knocked down the flames in the bedroom and the adjourning bathroom. Exterior crews removed the underpinning and found flames under the mobile home as well. Firefighters spent approximately 30 minutes removing duct work and insulation from under the mobile home to extinguish the fire under the floor.

The resident advised they discovered black smoke coming from the air ducts and then found fire at the back of the home. They evacuated the structure and called 9-1-1. It appeared the fire started in an outside heating unit and spread through the ducts igniting the floor on the south end of the building. The fire entered the structure under the master bathroom destroying the room and spread into the master bed room. The remainder of the home suffered smoke damaged, but most personnel items were saved. Firefighters were on the scene for two hours.

Engine 1, Engine 8, Engine 27, Tender 1, Tender 8, Tender 13, Tender 27, Medic 1, Battalion 1, Car 12 and Car 118 responded. Firefighter-Paramedic Tony Keen served as Incident Commander.
