21-January-2015 – MVC with entrapment – “C” Shift

Incident # 15-00414 – At 14:49 Wednesday afternoon 21-Janaury, Fire-Rescue units responded to the 800 block of Green Pond Hwy for a head-on collision involving two vehicles. Car 107 arrived to find the highway completely blocked by the accident which involved a Mercedes SUV and a small Chevrolet Impala. Both vehicles suffered heavy damage. Firefighters found a 47 year old female unconscious in the Impala. She suffered multiple traumatic injuries and was trapped in the wreckage. Firefighter-Paramedics began treating the woman, then requested a medical helicopter and a second ambulance. The 40 year old female driver of the Mercedes also suffered multiple traumatic injuries, however her injuries were not life threatening. She was already out of her SUV and sitting on the ground. Firefighter-Paramedics used Holmatro Rescue Tools to remove the driver’s door and free the driver of the Impala. A Landing Zone was set up in a field behind the Methodist Church  near the accident site. LifeNet 4 flew to the scene, but had difficulties and could not complete the transport. Medic 1 then transported the woman directly to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. The driver of the Mercedes was transported to Colleton Medical Center by Medic 26. Traffic on Green Pond Hwy between Proctor Street and Roberson Blvd was detoured for approximately an hour. The Colleton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the accident.

 Engine 1, Rescue 1, Medic 1, Medic 26, Battalion 1, Car 105, Car 107, Car 110 and Car 111 responded. Asst. Chief Marty Stallings served as Incident Commander.
