22/January/2015 Fatal MVC with Ejection A Shift

Incident # 15-00434 A 29 year old Colleton County man died from injuries received in a high speed single car accident in the 100 block of Pine Grove Road, Thursday evening 22-January. The accident was reported at 19:10 after the southbound car left the roadway and struck several trees on the northbound side of the secondary road. The Chevrolet Camaro split into two pieces, ejecting the driver into the wooded area across from 155 Pine Grove Road. A firefighter lives in the home and heard what he described as an explosion. He found the man conscious but severely injured and began to render aid until other Fire-Rescue units arrived. When Battalion 1 arrived, he took over care and requested a medical helicopter. Firefighter-Paramedics immobilized the man and began treatment. The LifeNet 4 medical helicopter arrived quickly and landed in a field next to the Pine Grove Church near the accident site, but the patient went into cardiac arrest before he could be transferred to the helicopter. He was transported by Medic 1 to Colleton Medical Center where he passed away shortly after arrival. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.


Engine 1, Medic 1, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Battalion Chief Dan Barb served as Incident Commander.
