22/March/2015 – Fatal MVC – “C” Shift

Incident # 15-01572 – A 27 year old Colleton County man lost his life due to injuries received in a single car crash on I-95 near the 47 mile marker northbound. He was the driver of a Volvo station wagon that left the roadway at a high rate of speed and struck several trees in the median. Fire-Rescue was dispatched to the location on Sunday afternoon 22-March at 18:12. Units arrived the find the car in the wooded median with heavy damage to the driver’s side. The driver was unconscious and trapped in the wreckage suffering from multiple traumatic injuries. Firefighter-Paramedics began treating the man in the wreckage, while other crewmembers used hand tools to free the man. He was extricated with full spinal precautions and rapidly transported to Colleton Medical Center in critical condition. No helicopters could fly due to poor weather conditions. Two other occupants in the vehicle were evaluated at the scene. An adult male was also transported to CMC by a second Fire-Rescue Ambulance, while a 16 year old male was released to his parent. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Engine 13, Rescue 1, Medic 1, Medic 13, Battalion 1, Car 12 and Car 118 responded. Battalion Chief Ben Heape served as Incident Commander.
