11/May/2015 – MVC with Entrapment – “B” Shift

Incident # 15-02529 - A 67 year old Round O woman suffered multiple, non-life threatening traumatic injuries after her car over-turned in the 8400 block of Round O Road Monday morning 11-May at 08:52. Apparently, the northbound 2013 Volkswagen Jetta left the roadway and struck a tree about one block north of Bodison Memorial Drive. The car then over-turned and came to rest on the driver’s side in the southbound lane. The female driver was wearing a seatbelt and was trapped in the wreckage. Firefighter-Paramedics arrived to find one lane of Round O Road blocked. Crews used a Glassmaster Tool to remove the windshield and gain access to the patient. One Medic remained inside the car with the patient providing care, while other crewmembers worked to stabilize the vehicle and remove the roof. Engine 9 began the extrication with one set of Holmatro Rescue Tools until Rescue 1 arrived with additional equipment. Firefighters stabilized the car using cribbing, jacks and the winch from Battalion 1. After 20 minutes, the patient was freed. She was extricated with full spinal precautions, then transported by Medic 9 to Colleton Medical Center. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Engine 9, Medic 9, Rescue 1, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident Commander.
