24/May/2015 – Burn Patient with Air Evac – “C” Shift Incident # 15-02792 – A two year old girl suffered
third degree burns to her feet in an accident off of Camp Buddy Road Sunday
afternoon 24-May at 12:04. The child’s mother reported some family members
had been camping the previous night and she returned to the location Sunday
morning. The child was playing with other children when she accidently ran
through hot coals left from a camp fire the night before. The mother drove
the girl toward Walterboro and met Medic 19 on Cottageville Highway (US Hwy
17-A) near Featherbed Road. She was transferred to the ambulance and rapidly
transported to meet with LifeNet 4 on the helipad at Colleton Medical
Center. The child suffered severe burns to both feet. She was treated,
including pain management, prior to being placed in the helicopter. LifeNet
4 flew the girl to the Pediatric Burn Unit at the MUSC Children’s Hospital
in Charleston. The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident. Medic 19, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Battalion
Chief Ben Heape served as Incident Commander. |
