08/August/2015 – MVC w/entrapment & Air Evac / “A” Shift

Incident # 15-04555 – A 76 year old man received suspected life threatening injuries in a high speed, single car accident on Green Pond Highway (SC Hwy 303) at the intersection of Wood Road. The accident occurred Saturday evening 08-August at 18:39. The small car left the roadway and struck an oak tree head-on causing heavy damage to the car and trapping the driver. The tree intruded almost to the fire wall. Firefighter-Paramedics arrived minutes later to find the man semi-conscious. A medical helicopter was immediately requested as personnel began treating the man. He was wearing a seatbelt. Crews used Holmatro Rescue Tools to extricate him from the wreckage. Once freed, he was immobilized, then transported to a large field near the accident scene to meet with LifeNet 7 who responded from Charleston. He was transferred to the flight crew without incident and flown to the Trauma Center at MUSC. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Engine 6, Medic 6, Rescue 1, Car 12 and Car 118 responded. Battalion Chief Scott Feather served as Incident Commander.
