07/November/2015 – Fatal MVC with Entrapment – “B” Shift 

Incident # 15-06529 – A 46 year old North Charleston man died from multiple traumatic injuries received in a single car crash Saturday evening 07-November. At 21:16, Fire-Rescue was notified of the accident in the 25000 block of Augusta Hwy. (SC Hwy. 61). Nearby residents hear the accident and rushed to the scene to assist the man. Bystanders told 9-1-1 Operators  the driver did not appear to be breathing. Engine 9 and Medic 9 arrived about 15 minutes later to the rural area to find a heavily damaged Nissan Pathfinder down an embankment in a ditch. The small SUV had been traveling westbound in a light rain and crossed the center line, driving down the embankment on the east bound side of the highway. The vehicle traveled a great distance before striking two separate driveway culverts and became airborne. It flipped over several times crushing the roof, before coming to rest upright in the ditch. The driver was wearing a seat belt however the roof was crushed, a contributing factor in his injuries. The man had no signs of life when Firefighter-Paramedics arrived. The Coroner was notified and responded to the scene. When he completed his investigation, Firefighters used Holmatro Rescue Tools to extricate the patient from the car. The SC Highway Patrol is handling the investigation.

Engine 9, Medic 9, Brush 9, Battalion 1, Rescue 1 and Car 12 responded. Firefighter Steve Pelton served as Incident Commander.
