13/December/2015 – Structure Fire – “A” Shift

Incident # 15-07253 – A Ruffin family has been displaced by an early morning fire that occurred Sunday morning 13-December. At 04:26, 9-1-1 was notified of the incident at 1238 Indian Creek Drive, in which the caller advised the living room was on fire. Engine 18 arrived minutes later to find the singlewide mobile home fully involved and a LP tank venting gas. The roof over the middle of the structure had already collapsed. Firefighters deployed two 1-3/4 handlines to combat the fire. One line was used to cool the LP tank until the fuel was depleted. The occupant advised he did not have any power to the residence and was using two small outside generators for electricity with two space heaters in the living room to generate heat. He noted that he had just refueled the generators and gone back to sleep when he was awakened by the blaze. Most of the fire was located in the living room in the center of the residence. The man was able to lower two children, one 5 and the other 10 out of a window to safety. No one reported any injuries. Firefighters had the fire knocked down within 15 minutes, but were on the scene for two hours performing overhaul. The home was destroyed and the family lost all of their possessions. Tenders were used for water supply in the rural community.  The American Red Cross is assisting the family.

Engine 10, Engine 18, Tender 4, Tender 15, Tender 27, Medic 18, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Assistant Chief Marty Stallings served as Incident Commander.
